New year, an intro from Cynthia

Hey everybody. Well this is my first time on the blog or on this website for that matter. My name is Cynthia Schroeder, I'm an incoming sophomore AND I'm the new GSA President for 2008-2009. I have so many plans for this year's GSA to help unify and educate our school.

I'm writing this thing as sort of an intro, I will try to post blogs after every meeting, or after every time something new and exciting happens. If anyone for any reason needs to contact me, I made a new email: caliente.cynthia@yahoo.com. I'll be sure to check it as often as I can.

This is where my blog comes to an end, so with that said,
enjoy your summer and see you in September!

Love,
Cynthia.

A FINAL WORD FROM CLASS OF 08 <3

Hey Everyone (literally haha jk XD) I've wanted to post a new blog updating you on the GSA for a while. Or at least post a blog documenting what we've done thus far. The GSA was a huge success and gained a large amount of attendees. We hope that with the start of this club, it will help promote the discontinuity of homophobia and be an informative club on LGBTQ related matters.

So, a look
back on the year, what have we achieved?

I-Poly's GSA was honored at the Cal Poly Lavender Grad ceremony. Where the GSA was given a certificate honoring our close works with Cal Poly's Pride Center and Mrs. Levy was awarded with a medal for her work as the adviser to the club. It was a wonderful night, and the GSA was so honored to even be invited to the event, where now all GSA attendees are now welcome to partake in. We've been welcomed with open arms by Cal Poly by being allowed to partake in their scholarships now and even LGBTQ art shows! Its personally been very heartwarming for us all in the GSA. The coordinator at the Pride Center, Fernando Estrada, left to pursue his PhD in Psychology which we wish him the best at and thank him for all his time given to support the GSA at I-Poly. And of course all of the wonderful students at Cal Poly's Pride Center who gave guest lectures and provided movies and much needed advise, the GSA is truly in debt to them all!

I-Poly was not limited to only having achieved that, we were able to raise $150 for the AIDS HEALTH CARE FOUNDATION through bake sales. While it may not seek like much, we were able to raise it in only 3 weeks. It was an honor to raise money for such an organization that helps provide free health care all over the world, with AIDS.

I-Poly's GSA had several guest speakers and several meetings where the class was FULL. We spoke about basically everything you can think of and provided many eye opening experiences and information. Though the GSA at I-Poly began late in the year (roughly around March) we were able to draw in a large attendance and set up something that will now go on forever at I-Poly.

The final meeting was addressed by none other than the 3 founders. Melanie, Rika, and Daniel all spoke on their own experiences and gave out friendship bracelets. To finalize their departure, an election was held and an 8 governing body was decided, with a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and a 5 board member of trustees. A big step considering it was only ran by 3 in its beginning, showing how much it has really grown, and will continue to grow.

It has been an honor for us to have partaken in bringing this club on campus. The times we've had with it are priceless and really precious to us, we've learned and have grown a lot from it. We know the next class to carry it on will do a fabulous job with it, we've taught them well ;] and left a binder/manual of what to do in case they don't! :]

We will miss the GSA and wish it the best and would like to thank everyone again who's supported the GSA through thick and thin. Mrs. Levy! Fernando! the Pride Center peeps! Kiely! Daniel! and the GSA Network! and every other staff/teacher attendee and student attendee who really supported us and cheered us on!

Thank you!
<3
